Comma

The Comma is a medium-sized warm-orange butterfly with brown markings. Like the Peacock and Small Tortoiseshell it hibernates in out-buildings and uses the protection of wall shrubs such as ivy and clematis. It has scalloped edges to the wings and a white crescent ‘comma’ mark on the dark undersides which resemble dead leaves. Often seen in woodland rides, parks and gardens.
