Size: 64-78 mm

This species is a familiar, bold, bright and strong flying butterfly that migrates to Britain from the continent each year. Very mobile so can be seen all over Yorkshire. Loves to feed on rotting apples and pears in the autumn. Caterpillar food plants are stinging nettles and occasionally hops.
