Dark Green Fritillary

Size: 58-68mm

This large fritillary has a fast, strong flight and is widely distributed around Yorkshire although in small numbers. The underside of the hind wing, near the body, is suffused with green, this is more obvious in freshly emerged specimens. Found in a variety of habitats, where it flies even on windy days. The caterpillars feed on violets.
